HIS Ensemble Presents "ARK"
HIS Dance Ensemble Creates remARKable Story!
ARK, an original contemporary ballet exploring the remarkable Biblical story of Noah’s Ark from the perspective of the animals. ARK features special guest artists, Patrick Johnson and Walker Wilson on March 8 & 9, 2019 at The DeVos Center for Arts and Worship at Grand Rapids Christian High School. Expert lighting, set design and creative costumes transform this beloved Bible story into a spectacular theatrical event.
Experience a fresh outlook into a familiar story as the animals are separated from their families, gathered in a strange place and told to board an unknown vessel. A great storm eradicates their world, destroying everything familiar and loved but God reveals Himself in a remARKable way. “The water reminds us that through Christ we are made new and reflects the love God has for each of us,” describes Co-Director Mary Jo Priest.
ARK is being restaged by Co-Directors Tassia Johnson and Mary Jo Priest utilizing the choreography of Hannah Sullivan, Sarah Powell and Emma Longworth. Tassia and Mary Jo currently teach dance at HIS Dance Academy. Tassia became a soloist with the acclaimed Dance Theatre of Harlem and has toured the world performing original works by many notable choreographers. Mary Jo is a graduate of GVSU’s dance program and was a member of local modern dance collective, DITA. Their unique experiences combine to create a ballet with strong technique and creative choreography that all ages will enjoy.
HIS Dance Academy is in its fourteenth year and offers classes in a variety of dance forms for children ages 2 through adult. Pre-professional training in ballet and recreational dance is taught in combination with developing Christian character and reaching the community for Christ.
