Kalamazoo Astronomical Society Public Observing Session

Sunday, April 28, 2019, 3:00 AM - 6:00 AM

The Kalamazoo Astronomical Society (KAS) invites the public to observe the wonders of the universe! Telescopes of all shapes and sizes will be set up near Owl Observatory, located on the grounds of the Kalamazoo Nature Center (7000 North Westnedge Ave.). The observatory itself, featuring our 12" Schmidt-Cassegrain Telescope, will also be open to the public.
Observing date:
Saturday, April 27
Highlights of the night include The Galaxies of the Virgo Cluster

Observing Begins: 8:00 pm

Along with observing through telescopes, KAS members will be on hand at the start of each session to conduct a Telescope Clinic. Beginners can learn how to properly setup and use their telescopes.

Each session also features a Constellation Workshop. Learn to read a simple star map (provided free of charge) and find bright stars and constellations on your own. The workshop is followed by a guided tour of the night sky.

Sessions will be canceled if the sky is mostly cloudy or overcast. For cancellation information, please visit the KAS website starting at 6:00 pm on the day of the session. For more information and a complete schedule of Public Observing Sessions, please visit our website:

You can also follow the KAS on Twitter and/or Facebook.
